The WASBO Scholarship Program was established in 1993, to assist WASBO members in furthering their education in the areas of school business management. Each year at the WASBO Annual Conference, members donate items to the Scholarship Raffle and Silent Auction. These proceeds are combined with donations from Partner and Vendor Sponsorships and used to fund scholarships for WASBO members. The scholarship funds are managed by the Board of Directors to assure maximum benefit to members.
Who can apply?
WASBO members are eligible for scholarships. Current board members serving on the selection committee are ineligible for scholarships.
guidelines and requirements
Members may apply for more than one scholarship at a time. Separate applications are required for each scholarship request. Members may also continue to apply for scholarships after receiving scholarships. No scholarship award shall exceed $500.00 in one year. Scholarships are awarded based on need, WASBO involvement and prior WASBO training participation. Applicants who have received previous scholarship funds will be required to demonstrate successful completion of the trainings covered by the most recent award. Board discretion will be utilized regarding approval/denial of future scholarships for those who fail classes or are no-shows at events.
WASBO reserves the right to deny a scholarship in any given category in any given year pending quality of the application, availability of funds, etc. Depending on the number of scholarship applications, full or partial scholarships may be awarded. Districts may be limited to number of scholarships awarded based on Board review and scholarship funds available.
For attendance at the Annual Conference only, special consideration will be given to school districts with recent levy failures, and applicants should identify themselves accordingly. Scholarships are awarded for the Annual Conference registration fee only. Membership dues that are included with the registration fee will have to be paid by the member prior to the conference.
Scholarship recipients are required to attend all workshop sessions. Once scholarship funds are awarded, the recipient must have membership dues paid in full prior to the Annual Conference.
Since many WASBO events have wait lists, scholarship recipients are expected to give 30 days’ notice if they are unable to attend the event.
