WASBO Professional Certification Program

 

Mission

WASBO develops leaders in business services to support the educational community.

 

Purpose

WASBO has established this program of professional certification to provide high standards of professional ethics and competence for the school business official at three levels: Certified School Business Specialist; Certified School Business Official; and Certified School Business Administrator. Furthermore, this program encourages the professional development and improvement of persons engaged in school business management and administration. Click HERE to view the Certification Table.  The specifics purposes of the Washington Association of School Business Officials Professional Certification Program are to:

Professionalize the position of school business personnel through the establishment of high standards of education, experience, ethics, and performance.

  •  

Develop confidence within the educational community (administrators, board members, staff, students) that the business function is in competent hands.

  •  

Develop confidence with the general community that the business function is in competent hands.

  •  

Provide educational and professional growth opportunities for school business personnel.

  •  

Provided state-wide standards for those who serve or seek to serve as school business officials.

  •  

Encourage all school districts and related agencies to employ a business manager/administrator who holds either a Certified School Business Official (CSBO) or a Certified School Business Administrator (CSBA) designation.
 

  

Eligibility

All individuals who believe they meet the standards and qualifications for certification and supporting documentation.  When awarded, certificate shall be good for five (5) years before renewal is required.

 

General Requirements for all Applicants

  •  

Completion of application.

  •  

Sign Standards of Conduct document.

  •  

Letter of recommendation.

  •  

Payment of fees.

  •  

Currently employed in a school district,
ESD or related agency.

  •  

Portfolio (CSBO/CSBA candidates; optional for CSBS)

  •  

All college degrees must be from an accredited college or university.

 

 

Renewal Requirements
  •  

Clock hours required for renewal within five (5) years:
-- 1.1 CSBS -- 25 hours
-- 1.2 CSBO -- 150 hours
-- 1.3 CSBA -- 150 hours

  •  

Fees must accompany renewal application.

  •  

Clock hours must be earned before renewal application will be accepted.

Training Tracks
Certification for School Business Specialist (CSBS) is currently available in the following tracks:

  •  

Accounting -- School Accounting 1 and School Accounting 2 (courses must be taken consecutively)

  •  

Financial Manager -- ACC 220, ACC 310

  •  

Payroll -- PAY 110, PAY 210, PAY 211, Accounting for Payroll

  •  

Purchasing -- PUR 101, PUR 102, PUR 103, PUR 201

Certification Renewals
  • Renewal applications must be submitted to WASBO within FIVE YEARS of the original approval date and received in the WASBO office prior to the expiration date.
